In the bathroom, the air was filled with steam, Daniel Johnson was taking a bath.

Nina Carter pulled herself out of bed, her face flushing red as she remembered the events from last night.

Although they were already married, she still felt incredibly shy after every intimate moment.

The sound of water stopped, and Daniel wrapped a towel around his waist as he stepped out of the bathroom.

She handed him his clothes: "Breakfast is ready. I'll be downstairs waiting for you."

"Alright!" he replied.

Down the stairs, Nina Carter carefully took out a cake from the fridge, putting it in the center of the dining table.

She held an ultrasound report in her hand. Because of nervousness, her heart was pounding.

Today was their two-year wedding anniversary and Nina wanted to tell him about her pregnancy. The thought of it made her feel both anxious and excited.

Daniel came down, dressed in a custom-made black suit that accentuated his elegant charm and stunning good looks.

After breakfast, Nina gripped the report tightly, taking a deep breath, and nervously spoke, "Daniel, I have something to tell you."

"Good. I also have something to tell you."

"Then you go first."

The man stood up, pulled a file from the drawer, and slowly handed it to Nina with his long fingers.

"This is a divorce agreement. Please take a look when you have time."

Nina was caught off guard, desperately controlling herself to prevent from collapsing.

She inhaled sharply, and the air that poured into her mouth cut like a knife.

He said divorce papers?

Her mind went blank for a while. After a while, Nina Carter found her voice and asked him in confusion, "Are you divorcing me?"

"Mmm," his voice was very soft and shallow.

She was holding the pregnancy test report, was about to ask him, is there no room for compromise?

What if we have a baby?

Would you reconsider?

But before she could speak, his voice came again, "Claire is back. I want to end our marriage early. We originally agreed to three years, but things have changed, and I want to end it a year early."

"I know this is sudden. This is just a draft agreement, you can have a look, any requirements you might have, as long as they're not too excessive, I will accommodate you."

Nina nodded blankly, "Okay, I'll look at it later."

She tucked the report behind her, gripping it tightly as beads of sweat formed on her palm.

She knew, there was no need to reveal it anymore.

"I have another favor to ask of you," said Daniel.

Nina tightened her hands, forcing herself to smile up at him: "Sure, tell me, as long as I can help."

"About the divorce, you should bring it up with grandfather, he will not agree if I propose it."

"Okay, I understand."

She had come from a very ordinary family—her mother was a nurse, and her father was a compulsive gambler.

There was no way she could ever match the Johnson family’s status.

The only reason she had gotten close to Daniel’s family was because when his grandfather and father were in a car accident caused by a business rival, Nina’s mom had been there to help. She had saved both elderly men. Years later, when Nina’s mother passed away from cancer and her father continued his gambling ways, Nina, now alone, contacted the Johnson family to ask for their help.

Dan’s grandfather immediately arranged for her to marry Daniel after she graduated from college.

Back then, Daniel Johnson had said: "I’ll marry you, but my heart belongs to someone else. Our marriage will last three years, and after that, you can ask for a divorce. We’ll go our separate ways."

She forced back her bitterness and suppressed all her affection.

With a calm response, she told him, "I know. I too have someone in my heart. When the marriage period ends, I’ll honor the promise and leave when the time comes."

After the wedding, her husband had fulfilled every duty of a husband—he loved her, pampered her, and protected her. Everyone around them knew that she was the apple of his eye. But only Nina knew that their marriage was never built on love—it was a contract.

All the good things this man did for her had nothing to do with love. It was only the fulfillment of a duty. If there was any bit of love, it was only towards her body, almost an infatuated care.

It was originally meant to be for three years, but the woman he treasured in his heart has returned now, it was time for her to step aside.

Nina bent down and picked up the divorce papers from the table.

Her appetite had disappeared, and just as she was about to leave the room, Daniel, looking slightly frustrated, tugged at his tie and called out to her.

"When you tell Grandpa, he’ll ask why. Didn’t you say there was someone you’d loved for years? Now that I’m letting you go, you can go find him and pursue your happiness. Grandpa won’t be able to object, even if he disagrees."

Nina Carter nodded, "Yes, I will tell him that."

After that, she hurried back to her room. She was afraid that if she stayed, she might regret it and beg him not to divorce her.

Daniel suddenly reached out, and in her panic, Nina quickly pulled away, afraid he would discover the pregnancy report in her hand.

The man noticed her distressed look, his concern growing. He gently grabbed her hand again. "You don’t look well. Are you feeling sick?"

"I’m fine," Nina quickly pulled her hand free.

"Two years as husband and wife, and you think I can’t tell when you’re lying?" his eyes darkened.

Finally, Nina admitted, "It’s nothing serious. It’s just... that time of the month."

"Get some rest later," Dan said.

After saying this, he suddenly noticed her tightly clenched right hand, asking in a low voice, "What are you holding so tight in your hand?"

Nina quickly threw the paper into the trash can, forcing a smile, "It's nothing, just some trash. I forgot to throw it away."

He would never know how much it hurt. It was like someone had taken an axe and split her heart in two, blood pouring out as it shattered.

'Dan... why is this happening? How can a marriage that seemed so perfect just end like this?' she thought to herself.

She had married him, almost recklessly, thinking this was her last chance.

But now, leaving him felt so sudden, so tragic.

"Naive girl," she whispered to herself. "You lost the gamble. He never loved you, not at all."

Seeing her unsteady and stumbling, Daniel didn’t think twice before picking her up.

Nina was stunned. "Let me go. I’ll walk back myself."

"You're too weak right now, stop pretending," Daniel Johnson's gentle and enchanting, sensual and deep voice echoed in her ears.

This voice had lulled her for two years, but now, he was about to leave her.

The woman blinked, and in the end, she could not resist the urge to cry.

Man teased her, "You're not a little girl anymore. Crying over your period... come on. I’ll call a doctor."

"I’m not crying," Nina said stubbornly.

He had no idea what she was crying about.

"Fine, fine. You’re not crying," the man relented. "But can you tell me... who is he?"

Nina, confused, asked, "Who?"

"You said there was a man you’ve loved for years. I’m curious, who’s the lucky guy that has been in your heart all this time?" Daniel asked.
