Rumors spread that Scott Wallence has gone mad, and indeed, it was because of Sophia's death.
Scott sleeps each night clutching Sophia's bones, speaking to them, recounting their past events. Every night before going to sleep, he would kiss her bones.
Three months later, Scott, carrying her bones with him, joined his end with her killer's. On his dying breath, he held her bones close to him like his most cherished lover, a relieved smile lingering on his lips.
Finally, they could truly be together in the afterlife.
Sophia had a dream where after her tragic death, Scott personally dug up her remains from the desolate hills. Her lingering soul could only watch Scott, unable to touch him.
"Miss Second, wake up! We've arrived at the McCall residence."
A dazzling light enveloped Sophia as she slowly opened her eyes. She took in her surroundings in confusion, her exquisite face portraying an ignorant look.
Coming out of her dream, remnants of tear stains from her pained expression made her seem innocent and soft. The driver, thinking she was still in a daze, gently reminded her again, "Miss Second, please hurry inside. Mr. McCall and the madam have been waiting for a long time."
Sophia glanced at the McCall residence outside the car window and realized that she had returned to being seventeen, the year she was taken back to the McCall family. The previous nightmare was not just a dream but her past life's experience.
Maybe it was heaven's compassion giving her another chance, taking her back to her starting point.
Just as Sophia McCall reached for her bag on the side, preparing to leave the car, her phone suddenly rang. Her hand froze at the car door as she slowly took out her phone from her bag.
The driver looked into the rearview mirror and saw the black, brick-like feature phone clutched tightly in Sophia's hand, and sneered.
Does this young lady truly hail from the countryside? Unable to afford a smartphone with internet access, she's actually still using a dated flip phone?
After Sophia answered the call, she heard an anxious male voice, "Hello, may I ask if you are Miss McCall?"
"Who is this?" She found the man's voice unfamiliar; there was no memory of it in her mind.
Despite her cold demeanor, it didn't affect the man's enthusiasm.
"Hello, I am Marcus Gateway, the director of N111 Laboratory. Can I ask if you have some free time recently? Could I perhaps arrange a face-to-face meeting to ask your advice on some matters?" The man's voice was brimming with anticipation.
The N111 Laboratory, she remembered it to be the tenth-ranked modern New York medicine R&D center in the country.
Sophia recalled all the information she'd read about the lab and its director, Marcus Gateway. However, she didn't know him personally, nor did she plan to accommodate him.
"Sorry, I'm pretty busy lately," she replied, then promptly hung up the phone on him.
She didn't give him any room for rebuttal.
"Beware of fraudsters, Miss McCall. They are everywhere these days," the driver kindly reminded her.
There are so many scam calls out there, with their tricks getting increasingly sophisticated. These people especially love to target naïve and wealthy young women who just arrived from the countryside like Sophia.
Not bothering to further explain, Sophia tossed her phone back into her bag, grabbed her handbag, and got out of the car.
The driver exited the car to retrieve Sophia's luggage and brought it into the McCall's residence for her.
This exquisitely decorated mansion is the McCall Family's residence.
She remembered in her previous life, the McCall Family didn't bring her back from Lower East Side until she was eighteen.
But in this life, she returned to the McCall Family a full year earlier.
However, it's okay to come back earlier.
No matter what, she will make those who hurt her pay the price!
