Chapter 1: Prologue

This was it, the moment I would be named, the moment I was waiting for. With my excited mate next to me, I approached Man who had been appointed to name us. As we waited to go forth, I could tell my mate's impatience overwhelmed her as we both stamped our hind legs in exuberance. Admiring her beauty, I watched as her mane rippled and blew in the passing breeze. Finally, Man looked at me, then at my mate, and when he drew near, he smiled as he touched her forehead. Returning his gaze to me, he leaned in and pressed his head against mine. I swished and tossed my long tail behind me as his warmth gave me the gift of closeness to him. It was calming and it left everything around us still and silent, but that didn't stop the excitement from billowing inside my heart as I awaited my name. Whatever Man chose to call out, He said, I would know it to be mine.

Suddenly, like a burst of air filling and expanding my lungs for the very first time, my name was called and filled me with a sense of purpose. He spoke, and it was so. Overjoyed, I couldn't help but shake my mane from one side to the other. Man smiled at me, almost laughing, and I thanked him. My mate followed me as I ran off to be with the other beasts of the field, and we watched the birds of the air up above who had all been named before me. The wind felt wonderful as the sun sprinkled its light into patches on the ground where I trotted under a forest of lush green.

Time passed, and now I, the first of my kind, who walked with the First, named by the First, would walk amongst time outside of the gates and the angel guard until the end, as told. Did I walk alone? No. In search, I found another, and together we would wait and watch, seek and find, do His will then go just as kind.
