Reuben Andrews, whose very name inspired awe, whose every word made law, was the most wealthy and powerful man in the country.
Legends about him were numerous.
But no one had expected him to actually look so otherworldly.
The crowd split as he walked through.
Yasmin tugged at her sleeves nervously. She hadn't known he would come back today and drunk some wine with her classmates.
She clearly remembered what Reuben had said to her before he left abroad.
"No relationships, no clubs, no alcohol."
Under his sharp gaze, she felt so scared that she almost flopped down to her knees.
Reuben's shadow enveloped her as he approached. She bit her lip and her face was crimson now. Maybe I should apologize, she thought.
Reuben patiently waited for her to break the silence.
No one dared to interrupt them.
Finally, Yasmin started under her breath, "Uncle…"
Her tongue struggled to make a complete sentence.
However, the crowd immediately understood their relationship.
Knowing that a storm was coming, the head of those staff gave a glare to the person who had mistaken Yasmin for the accomplice of the thief and apologized profusely.
Reuben turned a deaf ear to him. His eyes didn't shift from Yasmin a bit. "Bring him here," he said in a low voice.
Thereupon, two hunks in black brought a short man in. He was the one who had stolen the jade seal. He'd made it outside the hotel but unfortunately run into Reuben.
The thief was thrown in front of them and Reuben stepped one foot on his chest with an impassive face.
It looked like one of those soul-stirring scenes in TV dramas.
The whole place was heart-stoppingly silent.
Reuben put his weight on the tip of his shoe and made the man groan painfully. Yasmin thought it was too cruel and persuaded him to hand the man to the police.
"Take them out!" Reuben removed his foot and strode outward with his long legs.
Given his influence in City A, he didn't need to bother whether the man would be properly dealt with.
Yasmin hurried to catch up with him.
"Uncle Reuben…" When she found him in his car, she was already panting.
Reuben leaned against the leather seat and said in a mocking tone, "I don't think any police academy would take someone as weak as you."
Yasmin was stunned. Had he known that she'd decided to go to a police academy? Was he angry because of that? She hadn't told him about it but it wasn't hard for him to find out the schools she'd applied to.
Reuben didn't want her to be a policewoman, but she'd applied to more than one police academy.
Feeling his icy gaze, Yasmin lowered her head. She fiddled with the corner of her shirt, wondering whether it was possible to convince him.
She wasn't very tall, just about 5.4 feet, and looked aggrieved and desolate standing by the car.
"You won't get in the car?" Reuben asked sullenly.
