Weak Duke and His Divine Doctor Wife

Chapter 2

"I don't know him at all. After he dies, I can have a peaceful life here and don't need to worry about another arranged marriage." She thought.

At the room door of Duke Rong, the servant looked surprised and pleased at the sight of Xin. He was ready to kneel, but Xin raised her hand to stop him.

She was not used to this ancient etiquette.

She heard cries inside. "It must be his mother crying.

What a tragedy of losing her dear child for a mother." She sighed in her heart.

Then there came a burst of coughing. A man said in a gentle and feeble voice, "Mother, don't be sad. I am unfilial and can't accompany you anymore. You must take good care of yourself and this family..."

Mrs. Yu couldn't hold back her tears anymore. She wiped her tears away and said, "Wenmo, how can you do this to me? Your father left me behind long ago, and now you..." Mrs. Yu felt heartbroken and complained that fate was unfair to her and the Yu family.

That feeble male voice came again, "Mother, don't be sad. If you continue so, I can't look my father in the eye in the underground world. Now, I am worried about my little brother most!" There were worries and helplessness in his voice.

Duke Rong frowned and said, "He is smart and has military prowess. However, everything has its disadvantages. He knows the political situations well but isn't so flexible. I can give him some advice only if I live on. It is a pity that..." He knew that there was not much time left for him.

Duke Rong was calm. "Mother, I would like to ask you for a favor..."

Sobbing, Mrs.Yu looked at Wenmo and said, "Tell me. I will agree with whatever you ask for."

"After I die, you take half of my legacy. As for the rest, I would like to give it to Xin..." He felt sorry for her.

This shocked Mrs. Yu. She forgot to cry and looked at her son with dissatisfaction. "You know how she treats us. Why do you care about her? In the past three years, she never served or accompanied you, not to mention of giving birth to a child for the Yu family. Even now, she doesn't show up yet..."

Wenmo shook his head with a forced smile. "Mother, it is nor her fault. She was forced to marry a cripple. All in all, I owe her too much. She was supposed to marry a healthy, young, and rich man. She must have a grudge against this marriage..." Right then, he coughed and became breathless.

Mrs. Yu patted his back sadly as she shed tears.

Wenmo regained his ease again and said, "I hope you would be her godmother after I die. If so, her family won't give her a difficult time after she returns home. That's all I can do for her..." There was another burst of cough.

Mrs. Yu was worried and cried bitterly.

Xin, who overheard this conversation, felt moved and sad. "This man is dying but still cares about his wife." She had been a respected professor in her last life but was actually an orphan. Life had taught her to be independent, but his boyfriend broke up with her for this reason within a short time.

"This Duke Rong is trying his best to take care of me. Should I feel grateful and be good to him?"

Zilan, who was standing behind Xin, had shed tears for quite a while. "Duke Rong is awesome! What a pity that only the good dies young. How can life be so unfair to him!" She thought.

However, Xin glanced at the crying Zilan and then turned around to leave.

She needed some time to decide whether to save Wenmo. As a professor in medicines, she was good at both Chines traditional medicines and Western medicines. In this ancient time, she was supposed to be a miracle-working doctor. She hesitated now because this decision would change her future completely. "If I save him, I won't be free; if I don't, is it fair to him?

He is considerate and makes a good arrangement for his wife, and now me!" Xin pondered.

Zilan was stunned when her mistress left. She followed Xin instantly. "Duchess..."

"Duke Rong is kind, but Duchess refuses to see him cold-heartedly. I felt sorry for her at first, but now..." Zilian thought.
