Bernard's canvas bag was old and worn-out, but Bernard guarded it tightly with both of his hands as if he was protecting a rare treasure.
"No, there must be something wrong with it!"
Melanie's face changed, and a thought flashed through her mind. She suddenly reached out her hand and grabbed the bag. The whole movement was as fast as a reflex action.
At the critical moment, Bernard suddenly opened his eyes and stared at Melanie fiercely.
Then, he stretched out his hand and grabbed hold of Melanie's wrist.
"What are you doing?" Bernard yelled.
"What good skills!" Melanie was shocked. She didn't reply but stretched out her other hand and grabbed the canvas bag again.
"How dare you!"
Bernard shouted again. He grabbed Melanie's second trying hand as fast as lightning.
In an instant, the two with their hands clasped down stared at each other. The fierce fire sparked out of their eyes.
This sudden change shocked the people around them, but Samuel saw an opportunity. He reached out his hand and grabbed a corner of the bag. He lifted the cover of the bag and said in a strange tone, "Are you hiding a ghost here?"
The lid of the bag was flipped open.
Melanie immediately looked over. She was stunned.
There was only a box in the canvas bag, on which there was a black-and-white photo of a man in military uniform.
"It's an urn!"
Samuel quickly withdrew his hand as if he had just touched a ghost. With a disgusted look on his face, he spat, "Bah, he really is hiding a ghost there. Such bad luck!"
"Dare to say that again?" Bernard turned his head and stared at Samuel. His furious eyes pricked into Samuel's eyes like a knife.
Samuel was so scared that his scalp tingled. He shut his mouth with a pale face.
"What's this?" Melanie asked in a low voice.
"My comrades-in-arms, he passed away," Bernard answered with a sullen face. He let go of Melanie's hands.
"I'm sorry," Melanie apologized. She knew that she had made a mistake.
Bernard did not answer. He stared sadly at Adam's picture on the urn for a long time, and then closed the bag. Bernard again guarded the bag with both of his hands. He straightened his back, sitting straight on the seat like a mountain.
It was the same man, but in Melanie's eyes, Bernard was proud and lonely.
It turned out that he was guarding the spirit of his comrade-in-arms! An inexplicable feeling welled up in Melanie's heart, and she couldn't help but have a great curiosity about this man in front of her.
But she knew that it was not the time for wondering.
She looked at the seats on the other side of the aisle in front of her. There were four serious and strong men sitting there. Among them sat an old man. His hair and beard were white. He was her target that day, protecting Mr. Harmon.
Melanie looked away from her target and began to scan the surrounding. She had to find out the reported threats as soon as possible.
All of a sudden, a flustered shout came from the back of the cart. "Someone passed out!"
This voice was so loud that it spread through the whole cart. Everyone was shocked and stood up one by one to look over there.
At the end of the cart, a middle-aged man was lying on the floor with his eyes closed. He was unconscious.
Melanie frowned. She smelled danger.
"Miss Dual, let me pass through. I know CPR. I'm going to check the person," Samuel came up to Melanie. He was trying to put up a sympathetic look to gain Melanie's favor.
Melanie was annoyed. Without even looking at him, she turned to the side and made way for Samuel.
Samuel got snubbed again and squeezed out gloomily.
After being distracted by Samuel, Melanie was bothered. She turned her head and looked toward the direction where the noise coming from.
"Don't look back, Officer Dual. You are gonna put the person you are protecting in danger," Bernard's calm voice suddenly sounded.
"What?" Melanie suddenly turned back her head and stared at Bernard. A feeling of horror made her hair stand. "How did he know my identity and my assignment?"
She touched the gun hidden in her waistband.
"The chaos was created on purpose. The man on the floor is totally fine," Bernard continued, his tone was indifferent but full of confidence. "You should act now. Or it will be too late."
As soon as she heard Bernard's words, Melanie's hand froze. Bernard's words caught her attention, "The chaos was created on purpose."
"Chaos!"
Melanie's eyes suddenly turned sharp. She looked over at Mr. Harmon immediately.
At this time, the cart was in disarray. People were walking toward the back of the cart, wanting to see the fainted man.
Four people who were already very close to Mr. Harmon got Melanie's attention in an instant.
They looked ordinary, and it seemed like their attention were all on the incident in the back of the cart. But when Melanie looked carefully, she found out that the corner of their eyes was all glancing at the same thing: Mr. Harmon!
"No!" Melanie shouted in her head. At the same time, she pointed at them and shouted, "Stop them!"
All the undercover officers quickly stood up, but the attack by the four people had commenced.
"Swoosh!"
Four flying daggers, as thin as cicada wings and as cold as moonlight, shot out from their hands and aimed at the four undercover officers who sat beside Mr. Harmon.
The shooting range was too short. The moment the four officers could react, the daggers had reached them. They fell on the floor and left a pool of blood.
"Ah..."
All the passengers were scared out of their wits and began to scream.
The officers had to react fast. They all took out their guns, but the scene was extremely chaotic. They couldn't get a clear shot without hurting the civilians. Two officers who were nearest to Mr. Harmon stood in front of him as the human shield. The rest went after the killer.
The killers seemed to have no intention of killing Mr. Harmon for the time being. They charged towards the officers.
The scene was out of control!
However, Melanie did not move because she wanted to keep her eyes on Bernard, who puzzled and frightened her.
"Aren't you gonna do anything?" Bernard suddenly asked.
"Who the hell are you?" Melanie shouted. At the same time, she finally pulled out her gun and pointed it at Bernard.
Her action scared the people nearby. The boy sitting next to her was so scared that he hid his pale face inside the arms of his mother, who was also frightened.
"Can you not be so fierce?" Bernard frowned and asked. He turned to the boy and said with a smile, "Buddy, don't be afraid. I'm here."
Bernard's voice was mellow, full of convincing confidence, and his smile was like a spring breeze. The boy nodded, and his face looked much better.
Melanie looked at Bernard in disbelief, "A man with a gun pointed at his head went to comfort others? Was he crazy?"
Bernard turned back his head and looked at Melanie. There was something fearful that appeared in his eyes.
Melanie suddenly trembled. The look from Bernard's eyes made her scared.
Bernard suddenly shook his head and said with a faint smile, "Your abilities are not very good."
His tone was calm, but the calmness couldn't hide the trace of arrogance in Bernard's tone of voice.
Bernard's words made Melanie subconsciously want to squeeze her trigger finger.
But at this moment, Melanie's eyes blurred, and her hands went numb. The gun that she had been holding appeared in the hand of Bernard.
Then she saw the gun was dancing around the fingers of Bernard's right hand, dazzling for the eyes.
In the blink of an eye, Bernard's right hand stopped, and his five fingers loosened. With a crackling sound, the parts of the gun fell on the seat. Bernard had dissembled it.
Looking at the parts, Melanie was stunned!
"Please take good care of my comrades-in-arms!" Bernard put his canvas bag on the shoulder of Melanie, who was still dumbfounded. He then turned around and threw himself at the killers.
At this moment, Shura had descended!
